I can't believe anyone is this stupid...
New York Post Online Edition: gossip: "SOMEBODY get Nicolas Cage's new wife, Alice, an American history book and quick! Spies at the L.A. premiere of 'National Treasure' last week said Alice, 20, seemed befuddled when someone talked to her about the Declaration of Independence. 'She looked at them and said, 'What is the Declaration of Independence?'"
Duh! WHAT AN IDIOT. I so so so hate stupid vapid shallow women that have nothing better to do with their two brain cells than to worry about what lipstick to wear and what designer clothes to buy.
Yes, that means YOU, Paris Hilton! And YOU, Nicole Ritchie. And YOU, Jessica Simpson! And YOU, Avril Lavigne! Stupid, vapid shallow mega-idiots that you are.
Geezus, someone needs to smack these women. Please let it be me.
I love stories like this...
Yahoo! News - Great Animal Story...: "A pod of dolphins circled protectively round a group of New Zealand swimmers to fend off an attack by a great white shark, media reported on Tuesday."
Houston, we have a walker...
Yes, it's true! The wee one walked for the first time on Sunday! 9 steps from a chair to the ExerSaucer, all on his own. Hubby and I are so proud!!
He's only 10 months old. =) We knew it was only a matter of tim once he started cruising between furniture recently. So many milestones in so small a period....standing on his own, then two lower front teeth popping in, and now walking!
Such a good boy.
Of course, hubby spent a good portion of last night fretting over our now-desperate need for gates, especially at the top of the stairs.
The wee one's only really toddling now (walking only sporadically, taking few steps here and there, but mostly using crawling for locomotion), but faster than we think he'll be walking and running all over the place and getting into trouble!
Gotta get some cabinet door babyproofing bits too. =)
Ahh....life is good.
proof that art transcends language...
My dad sent me this link today, saying only, "Have anyone with artistic talents watch this with the speakers on."
I have no idea who did it or why, but it's spellbinding...performance art with sand, light, and music. Amazing.
Have a look:

early morning thought of the day...
I mentioned a while back that I am a big fan of
Burning Monkey Solitaire, made by those wacky folks at Freeverse Software.
Well, this morning, one of the monkeys in the game made a comment that really threw me...then made me laugh...then made me think.
(paraphrasing) "Remember, half the people in the world are below average."
In the middle of my amusement, I realized...that's a true statement, and a really scary thought...
random early morning thought for the day...
"the ones who love us best are the ones who love what makes us complete"
whew, it's over...
Yesterday was Investiture (my coronation). It was a loooooong-ass day, but everything went smoothly, and I was really pleased. We got several comments from people on our "presence" as we entered the hall to take the thrones. Apparently, we overwhelmed the room. I don't know about that, really...all I remember from our procession was not being able to hear our spokesman (rats!), and the hush of the audience...I guess I took their lack of reaction as a sense of blase-ness and my initial feeling was of disappointment that we didn't go over very well. Maybe I was mistaken...according to the folks who talked to us about it later, we "took" the room.
All I know is that things went off without any major hitches, and I'm so very grateful to all the people who helped that happen.
So now I'm a Princess. Pretty freaky...but good. I'm hoping to have a good reign, and leave the populace (when we're done) with a feeling of fun and pride.
And I'm hoping I don't get burned out, as can happen. Gonna have to really watch out for that.
The one sucky thing? I'm sick again. Had a sore throat all day yesterday during the proceedings, and woke up this morning much worse. I can barely talk, and my throat is gummed up but on fire at the same time. Lovely green gobs of goop I'm coughing up as well. Ugh. Gross, I know.
Again, I ask.
Why does your phlegm turn fluorescent green when you're sick??
I'm baaaack....
...from Hawaii. Just got in a little while ago. Baby is down and sleeping, finally. The flight was rough. He threw up 3 times! Thank goodness I'd brought a change of clothes for both him and me. (third throw up was on poor hubby)
I think flying just doesn't agree with his lil tummy. And his schedule is all messed up now, with the time change and his not sleeping much on the flight. The next couple days are going to be rough, getting him to readjust to his old schedule.
Hawaii was fun, but tiring. As hubby said, it was the same day care, just in a different place. But that was only part of it...yes, I was still doing the same taking care of the baby just in a different part of the world, however I was on vacation, not going to work, drinking fruity rum drinks and swimming in the balmy ocean.
I'd love to live there. That's my kind of weather there, and lifestyle too. /sigh
More tomorrow when my brain is functional.
to paraphrase an obscure e-Elvis, "He's Huuuuuge!"
My wee one had his 9-month checkup yesterday, and he's doing just great. =)
He's 30" tall, 23 lbs...that puts him in the 95th percentile for height. There is a couple we know that has an 18-month old boy, and my wee one is the same size as he is! As we were leaving the doctor's office, I ran into the OB/GYN doctor who treated me while I was pregnant. I smiled and said, "This is my boy." He said, "He's HUUUGE!" =)
Aaaanyway, the doctor showed me where there's a tooth juuuuust about ready to pop through my wee one's gums (on the bottom)...no wonder he's been drooling like a mad fiend lately, and stuffy and snotty. Apparently when teeth are getting ready to erupt like that, it causes the head to produce more fluids (saliva, snot, etc.) than normal. And the overabundance of fluid can also cause ear inflammation, which he does have - he's been pulling at his ears recently.
The doc was very impressed by his manual dexterity (ability to grasp things delicately with his fingers, which most kids apparently can't do real well at this age), and by his language progress - meaning the great variety of sounds that he's making: ba-ba-ba-ba, da-da-da-da, ma-ma-ma-ma, na-na-na-na and he's working on the "TH" sound with his tongue too. He talks a lot. =)
He's such a good boy.
We leave for Hawaii on Saturday - our yearly family trip (my sister and her hubby live on Maui). It'll be interesting flying with him this time. The trip to Vegas was short, so he didn't really have much time to get antsy, but this flight will be 5 hours! I shudder to think what's going to happen. He's mobile now, where he wasn't before, and he's gonna want to get out of the seat and walk around, but he's going to be frustrated by having to stay put.
We'll see how it goes. He might be really good. (keeping fingers crossed) But I'm sooo glad to be going on this vacation. With all the stresses of preparing for this princess thing (the big day is Nov. 13th), I'm in dire need of some relaxation time. Fruity rum drinks with umbrellas...just what I need. =) Alooooooo-HA!
say it ain't so...please...
Yahoo! News - AP: Bush Wins Race As Kerry Concedes: "President Bush won a second term from a divided and anxious nation, his promise of steady, strong wartime leadership trumping John Kerry's fresh-start approach to Iraq and joblessness. After a long, tense night of vote counting, the Democrat called Bush Wednesday to concede Ohio and the presidency"
We're all in for a world of hurt now. Four more years of this crap? Warmongering, right-wing nutjob politics? The downward spiral of restricted privacy in the name of "national security", anti-choice legislation of intolerance, and playing the role of world police (class bully) goes on. When will people wake up?
I dread the next 4 years. America is doomed to a dismal future.
And here's how it begins...
Yahoo! News - Voters in 11 states ban gay marriage
please vote!!
We've GOT to get Bush out of office and start repairing our warmongering reputation...please go vote today!
It's time for a change!
