time to move on...
I know it is time, and the way I'm feeling today, I am sorely tempted to just up and give my two weeks notice now anyway, even without having something else lined up.
I'm so tired of having nothing to do here. And it's strange...I get the feeling that the boss is mad at me for sitting around with nothing to do, even though *she's* the one who controls all the workflow in the first place. Granted, September has been slow in terms of work. But a work ethic is firmly ingrained in me, and sitting around with no work to do really gets tiresome, and causes me guilt as well. I know it's not my fault, but still.
Property taxes are due...nearly $5000! Ugh. And I have to talk to the day care folks today and change things there, because I can no longer afford to send the Booga Boy two days a week. I'm going to keep him going for one day a week, I've decided, because I think the socialization is good for him, and I need at least one day clear to do job search stuff (and have a sanity break).
Looks like I'll be taking over website maintenance for the SCA group I play with (again). I've started on a new site with a new look and new content...it's not finished yet, but it's hopefully going to be well-received. I've received several really good suggestions for new content from people who have reviewed the pending site. There are a ton of things I'd like to see added.
I'm so glad it's Friday. Not that the weekends are normally restful for me, with the busy busy Booga Boy, but it'll be nice to maybe go on a picnic or take the Booga Boy to a park I couldn't normally get him to during the week. We went to the pool yesterday afternoon (it was very hot here), but had to cut water time short when another of the babies there threw up in the pool. Ew. I could tell the Booga Boy was disappointed and wanted to get back in the water. He didn't understand why we couldn't!
Oh well. It's likely not going to be hot much now that October is upon us, but I'm hoping I get to take him at least once more. He was having a great time swimming and kicking in the water, going back and forth between the depth tiles (3, 4, 5) on the side.
Guess it's time to get back to not working.
my brain is mush...
I just spent the last two hours hunting down job web sites, re-upping with them, updating my information, and renewing my memberships with the HTML Writers Guild/Int'l Webmasters Assn. and the World Org. of Webmasters.
Searched through CraigsList, Monster.com, and Dice.com. Yahoo HotJobs is next, but my tummy is starting to complain so I think I'll put that off til after lunch.
I've seen a few jobs that would be great, but they're either too far away or don't pay enough. I *really* would like to find a P/T job. We'll see how things go.
Hubby went to see the doc today about his back...I'm hoping there's good news.
first rain of the season...
...just started outside. Accompanied by lightning and thunder, which is very unusual around here.
The Booga Boy seems unfazed by the thunder, which is good. Personally, I love thunder. I remember being at Pennsic (SCA event in PA for those who aren't familiar with it) for my first (and so far only) time and one night there was an amazing lightning storm...and none of it hit the ground. It was all from cloud to cloud, so the ink black clouds would light up as the lightning flit from here to there among them, and then a HUGE thunderclap. A whole gang of us from here in California all sat around for hours watching it.
Speaking of the Booga Boy, I've added two new photos of him which I took last week. Such a wonderful smile he has. =) He's sitting next to me at hubby's desk right now, watching an Elmo DVD on the computer.
As for me, work's the same, life's the same. Still coughing. Hubby still having back trouble (healing). He stayed home sick from work today. He's been nauseous since yesterday and his back is really aching where the surgery was. My opinion is that he did a little too much and since the nerves are all connected from your back through your torso, the nausea is directly related to his back pain. But he doesn't want to listen to me, of course. He's very stubborn and hates going to the doctor. I'm glad he already had a pre-arranged appointment with the back surgeon for a follow-up anyway tomorrow. Hopefully they'll be able to tell him what's up.
Pursuant to my previous post, that was the first in a string of 5 nights of insomnia. I'd get to sleep OK going down for the night, but after waking up and giving Booga Boy his bottle at 2 or 3am, I'd lay in bed listening to my brain rattle on and on relentlessly. So frustrating. Last night it finally broke, and I'm hoping for good. I was able to get to sleep after the late night feeding last night, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for tonight.
I'm also struggling with a HUGE urge to purge stuff around here. I don't want to go overboard, so I'm taking things a little at a time. I think my desk is going to be one of the first projects. I just have too much crap on it hehe.
Ah well, back to Elmo. =)
well, I'm awake...
...and it's 4:25am. Ugh. The Booga Boy is sick. I think it's just a cold, but he's stuffed up, and that means he's not sleeping well. I just gave him some children's Benadryl, and he seems to be down for now.
He woke up about 3:15, and I gave him some bottle, some Benadryl, and rocked him to sleep. Then I went back to bed, but tossed and turned, my brain running on overdrive. So I decided just to get up.
I know I'm going to really be hurting in a while, when I finally get tired. And, of course, by then it'll be too late to go back to sleep because the Booga Boy will be up soon. He usually is up around 6 or 6:30am.
So...I'm having an english muffin and waiting for fatigue to set in again.
Oh, I took some great photos of the Booga Boy yesterday. I'll try to get one or two up here soon.
geebus, it's been 6 weeks
...since I posted last. Things have been..."interesting"...in the Chinese proverbial sense.
In the words of Inigo Montoya..."No, there is too much, let me sum up."
... hubby had back surgery a month ago which he's still recovering from. It pretty much incapacitated him from the standpoint of helping to take care of the Booga Boy..couldn't pick him up, couldn't bend over, etc. So, I've been very tired lately. Very tired.
... Booga Boy is slowly gaining new words, but he's still behind other kids his age (from what I can see comparing kids at his day care). He has developed a love of talking on the phone to people. He says "Hi...hi...hi." I'm now trying to teach him "Bye bye". =) And I'm teaching him to wash his hands. I stand him on a chair at the kitchen sink and we run our hands through the water together, I put soap on his hands and show him how to wash his hands. Lucky for me, he loves water, so he gets excited when I say, "Ok, let's wash our hands!"
... My friend Julie is expecting and due in November. I ran the "games" at her baby shower. It was only the 2nd baby shower I'd ever been to. My shower was the first, heh. It seemed to go well. She got a lot of cute stuff. I felt kind of weird though, because my gift was "practical". Gave her the "Helping Baby Sleep Through The Night" book (from my recommended list here), and a set of really cute Carter's wooden blocks, and another book. Seems like everyone else's gifts were cute clothes or whatever, and their cards were humorous. My card was sweet, so halfway through reading it aloud, Julie stopped reading it because I said "It's a sweet card, not a funny card." And she said, "Oh, I was waiting for the punchline." Sigh.
... Work is getting me down. My boss (the owner of the company) came to me at the end of August and said she was going to be reducing my hours. I only work part-time for her already. Anyway, she said she didn't want me coming in Wed and Thurs afternoons like I had been, because...and get this...
because she didn't feel like she was getting enough take-home pay herself, and she wanted more money! I couldn't believe she said that! I mean, even if it was true, you don't tell the employee that! Great motivational tool, I tell ya.
She's the sphincter through which all work flows...she has control of all the workload, and farms out stuff for us (the 3 employees) to do for the various clients. She hasn't been giving me much stuff to do lately, so I've been spending part of my time at work with nothing to do. And because I haven't had as much to do as before (because she isn't giving me anything), therefore I might as well have my hours reduced so she can have more take-home pay. God forbid she give me stuff to do! No! She works long hours, and has more to do than she can handle, and still she doesn't give me stuff to do! It's a control issue, I'm convinced.
I got home after work that day and told my dad (who owned his own business for 20 years), and he just laughed. He shook his head and said "Well, she's not going to have a successful business running things like that."
I had asked her during the conversation whether one of the other employees was going to be taking over my Wed and Thurs afternoon hours. She told me No. Well, what do I find out when I come in the next day and look at the schedule? One of the other employees is now scheduled to take over my Wed and Thurs afternoon hours! Nice. She flat out lied to me. I asked her about it, and she said it was a mistake. Well, the schedule still has this other person on slate for those afternoons...2 weeks later.
Mostly I've decided to try not to let it get to me. I figure maybe she really just wants to get rid of me altogether and is choosing a passive-aggressive way of dealing with it. If I quit, I don't qualify for unemployment. But if she lets me go, I do qualify for unemployment, which would cost her money.
Every once in a while I get annoyed about the situation though. I just wish people would be honest and forthright. I mean, just come to me and say "I am letting you go because I want this other person instead." (or something)
ANYWAY...so I've started looking for another job. Still trying to find a part-time gig, because spending as much time as I can with the Booga Boy during these years is incredibly important to me. And I'm going to try and "up" my skillset too. Maybe take a Flash or Illustrator course. Those appear to be the skills I'm lacking most for the market.
...So yeah, stuff has been going on, I've just been too distracted and exhausted to post about it. I'm still exhausted. But I am sitting here at work with nothing given to me to do (again) and figured I'd share what's been happening the past few weeks.
